A Few Helpful Notes

1. Protein Powder: This is a quick and easy protein powder recipe I regularly turn to for a protein boost (sometimes I don't always get as much as I should). Lately, I've been using this Bone Broth Collagen protein powder by Ancient Nutrition. In addition to being a good protein supplement, it has done great things for my skin and digestion. I highly recommend it!

2. Frozen Bananas: I started making this recipe because I had a bunch of bananas that were very ripe. Instead of letting them go bad, I sliced them up, put them in baggies, threw them in the freezer and used them in smoothies. Viola! No more wasted bananas. Obviously, you can also buy pre-frozen bananas at the store.

3. No Frozen Bananas? No Problem!: One fresh banana plus one cup of ice can be substituted for one frozen banana.

4. 60 Second Smoothie Prep: For anyone who is always sprinting out the door in the morning (like me), you can turn your 5 minute smoothie prep into a 60 second smoothie prep. Just put all the ingredients except for the frozen banana in your blender or bullet the night before and store in the fridge. In the morning, simply dump the frozen banana slices in the blender/bullet, blend for 30-60 seconds and enjoy your smoothie in record time.

5. Add-Ons: Show you digestion a little TLC and add a tablespoon or two of chai seeds to your smoothie.

6. Show Your Blender Some Love: If using ice, crushed is far easier to blend than big cubes. If you are freezing your own bananas, cut them into small slices so your blender doesn't have to work so hard. If you do have really large pieces of frozen banana, let them thaw for a few minutes before blending them up. Your smoothie will still be plenty creamy and your blender will thank you.

What I Used

Although I have a nice big blender courtesy of my mother (thanks mom!), I tend to use this little KitchenSmith single serve blender when making my morning smoothies. I purchased it on a whim and it has held up shockingly well for about six months now. It is compact, quick and easy. I save my big blender for serious business like making batches of margaritas.
